Days before the first Camp Lejeune Justice Act trial, the Department of Justice filed arguments seeking to exclude certain scientific evidence from the courtroom. The first kidney-cancer bellwether, Mousser v. United States, is scheduled to begin October 27, 2026 before Judge Boyle, with a second case, Fancher, set for November 9. The government has separately argued that any compensation award must be offset by veterans' benefits claimants already received.

**Why it matters.** As the first bellwether trials to reach a courtroom in a litigation covering tens of thousands of Camp Lejeune water-contamination claims, the evidentiary and offset rulings will shape how both sides value the remaining cases.
