Judge sends trimmed Keurig K-Cup antitrust MDL toward 2027 trial

A Southern District of New York judge unsealed an order denying Keurig Green Mountain's motion for summary judgment in a long-running antitrust MDL, allowing monopolization, tying and false-advertising claims to proceed toward trial. The complaint, led by Rogers Family Coffee Co. and other plaintiffs, alleges Keurig used exclusive dealing and product design in its 2.0 brewing system to shut out rival K-Cup makers. The court found certain of Keurig's safety and performance statements about non-compatible cups to be literally false, though it trimmed some other claims.
Why it matters. The ruling keeps alive claims seeking more than $5 billion in damages and could shape how courts evaluate exclusive-dealing and tying theories in other platform-lock-in consumer antitrust cases.
