FTC settles price-discrimination case against Southern Glazer's Wine and Spirits
Responsible attorney: Lou Schwartz, Schwartz & Associates, PC, Atlanta, Georgia. intake@snalawyers.com
The FTC announced a settlement agreement with Southern Glazer's Wine and Spirits LLC, described as the nation's largest wine and spirits distributor, that will provide redress tied to allegedly illegal price discrimination against small businesses. The settlement follows an administrative action under the Robinson-Patman Act framework the FTC has been enforcing. Commissioners Ferguson and Meador each issued statements on the matter the same day.
Why it matters. The settlement signals continued FTC willingness to pursue price-discrimination claims that can affect small-business purchasers and inform parallel private antitrust or consumer claims.
Update, Oct. 6, 2026: The FTC and Southern Glazer's finalized the stipulated settlement order, which imposes six years of pricing restrictions and independent monitoring on the distributor's sales to the largest chain retailers.
