Judge lets FTC's ticket-scalping suit against Ticketmaster, Live Nation proceed

Responsible attorney: Lou Schwartz, Schwartz & Associates, PC, Atlanta, Georgia. intake@snalawyers.com

A federal judge denied Ticketmaster and Live Nation's motion to dismiss the FTC's lawsuit over ticket resale practices, so the case now moves into discovery, as reported by Hypebot and Law360. The FTC sued in September 2025, alleging the companies let professional ticket brokers get around purchase limits by running large numbers of accounts under false identities. The FTC's claims under the Better Online Ticket Sales (BOTS) Act and its deceptive pricing claims remain in the case. The ruling does not decide whether the companies violated the law.

Why it matters. The decision keeps alive a major federal consumer-protection case over ticket-buying practices and fee disclosures, with the case now moving into discovery where more facts about the companies' practices may come to light.
