SEC issues order to show cause in NextPlay Technologies deregistration case

Responsible attorney: Lou Schwartz, Schwartz & Associates, PC, Atlanta, Georgia. intake@snalawyers.com

The SEC issued an order to show cause against NextPlay Technologies Inc., a Nevada corporation, after the company allegedly failed to respond within ten days to a September 4, 2026 order instituting proceedings under Section 12(j) of the Exchange Act. The underlying proceeding seeks to determine whether it is necessary to revoke registration of NextPlay's securities for the protection of investors, a step the SEC has warned could result in a default finding against the company. The matter remains an administrative proceeding and the allegations against NextPlay have not been adjudicated.

Why it matters. Section 12(j) revocation proceedings strip a company's securities of their registered status, which can eliminate trading markets and complicate recovery efforts for existing shareholders of delinquent filers.
